During the fourth great ninja war, Sasuke gained the rinnegan for the first time along with naruto who got sage six paths mode. it was that time when the power scale of the shinobi world gone off charts that only two shinobi can take upon the entire shinobi world.
Apart from the otsutsuki clan the only capable shinobi that can time travel is Sasuke Uchiha by using his rinnegan. when the karma mark enter the storyline we saw that whoever has the karma can travel among the dimensions and time travel.
After the battle with ishiki otsutsuki when they successfully defeated him it was momoshiki otsutsuki who take on boruto body to stab Sasuke Uchiha rinnegan eye, we all know what Sasuke Uchiha is capable of when it comes to Fight. There must be two things that might happen in that situation. The first one is "momoshiki might caught him off guard to stab rinnegan" we all know this never gonna happen.
There is also another theory that in chapter 61 when Eida states as "an otsutsuki may nullify their chakra it's a trick that naturally comes otsutsuki", in this case when momoshiki take on boruto body then nullify his chakra to erase his presence to attack Sasuke and to stab his rinnegan.
By losing rinnegan Sasuke cant travel back in time or through dimensions and in this present situation in boruto with kawaki karma gone he is no longer access to the powers of ishiki otsutsuki may be in the future he can get his karma back by Amado. With Sasuke rinnegan gone and kawaki karma, the only shinobi who is capable to travel back in time and through dimensions is non-other than boruto.
The reason behind this theory is Because of the thinking of Sasuke we all saw that how Sasuke gave chances to boruto to prove himself in presence of naruto.
we know that Boruto is a Sasuke Uchiha student and with all the above theory if boruto masters karma to open a portal to time travel there might be a chance that Sasuke will take boruto with him whenever they need to travel through dimensions. If this theory became true there will be wide openings in the story this might also involve time skip etc: if they traveled together Sasuke Uchiha might have time to train boruto like jiraya uses to do with naruto.
we know what how it looks like when they time traveled back in time together to defeat urashiki otsutsuki.
May be this also a reason why kishimoto removed sasuke rennigan...
